Usage Note

Grueso describes physical thickness or bulk: una pared gruesa (a thick wall). It can also describe a coarse or crude quality (palabras gruesas = coarse language). As a noun el grueso means 'the bulk' or 'the main part' of something, e.g. el grueso del ejército (the bulk of the army).
