globo

balloon

noun GLOH-boh Rare

Also means

globe

Usage Note

Globo covers several round, inflated or spherical objects: a toy balloon (globo de cumpleaños), a hot-air balloon (globo aerostático), and the globe of the Earth (el globo terráqueo). Context almost always disambiguates. Do not use globo as a direct translation of 'light bulb' — that is bombilla in Spain and foco or bombillo in much of Latin America.

Examples

"Los niños juegan con globos de colores."

Natural Translation

The children play with coloured balloons.
