Usage Note

Gasóleo is the standard Spanish term for diesel fuel, especially in Spain; diésel is also widely used and understood. Gasóleo specifically refers to the petroleum distillate used in diesel engines and heating, as distinct from gasolina (petrol/gasoline). Note the written accent on the o: gasóleo is a proparoxytone (stress on the antepenultimate syllable).
