Also means
to establish
Usage Note
Fundar means to found or establish an institution, city, or organisation. The past participle fundado gives the common phrase bien fundado ('well-founded', as in a claim). The noun derivatives are fundación ('foundation') and fundador/fundadora ('founder'). Do not confuse with hundir ('to sink') — a phonetic near-miss for learners.
Examples
"Fundaron la empresa hace treinta años."
Natural Translation
They founded the company thirty years ago.
