Usage Note

Freguesia is a Portuguese and Galician word for the smallest administrative division — equivalent to a parish. In Spanish it appears mainly when discussing Galician or Portuguese governance; in Galician it is spelled freguesía. It is not standard Castilian Spanish, where parroquia is the usual rendering.
