Expresidente (also written ex presidente with a space) follows the standard Spanish convention of attaching the prefix ex- to a noun to indicate a former holder of a position. The feminine form is expresidenta. In Spain, both expresidente del gobierno and expresidente de la república are used depending on the political system being discussed.
