exam

noun ehk-SAH-mehn Less Common

Also means

examination

Usage Note

Examen gains a written accent in its plural exámenes because the extra syllable makes it an esdrújula (stress on the antepenultimate, e-XÁ-me-nes); the stressed vowel itself never changes. It covers both academic tests and medical examinations (examen médico). The verb is examinar(se)examinarse de historia means 'to sit the history exam'.
