Estadística functions both as the uncountable discipline (statistics, a university subject) and as a countable datum (una estadística preocupante = a worrying statistic). Las estadísticas muestran… introduces cited data. Do not confuse with estadio (stadium) or estado (state), which share the Latin root but differ entirely.
