Usage Note
Escupir is a regular -ir verb. It can take a direct object (escupir sangre, to spit blood) or be used intransitively. Figuratively escupir means to blurt something out angrily — escupir la verdad means to spit out the truth. The noun escupitajo (or esputo in medical language) means a gob of spit.
