Usage Note
Escritora is the feminine form of escritor (male writer). In contemporary Spanish, especially in Spain, gender-specific professional titles are standard and preferred over a generic masculine. The plural escritoras refers exclusively to female writers; a mixed group uses escritores by grammatical convention.
