Escondite means a place to hide — a hideout or hiding spot. It is also the name of the children's game of hide-and-seek: jugar al escondite. The related verb is esconder ('to hide') and the past participle escondido ('hidden'). Escondido can also stand alone informally for 'a secluded spot'.
