escolta

escort

noun ehs-KOHL-tah Less Common

Also means

bodyguard

Usage Note

Escolta is feminine even when it refers to a male guard (el escolta is also acceptable as a masculine agent noun). It covers both the person providing protection and the accompanying group (una escolta policial — a police escort). In basketball Spanish, escolta also means 'shooting guard', so context matters.

Examples

"El presidente viajó con escolta."

Natural Translation

The president travelled with an escort.
