Usage Note

Equivocar is almost always used reflexively: equivocarse means 'to be wrong' or 'to make a mistake' (me equivoqué de calle = I took the wrong street). The non-reflexive form equivocar a alguien (to mislead someone) is less common. It is a spelling-change verb: c → qu before e in the subjunctive and preterite (me equivoqué).
