Usage Note
Emitir covers physical emission (gases, light, sound) and institutional issuance — a government emite currency, a radio station emite a programme. For TV/radio contexts it closely overlaps with transmitir, but emitir is preferred in formal registers. Do not confuse with omitir (to omit).
