Emerger is used for things rising to the surface or coming into view, whether literally (el sol emerge) or figuratively (una nueva tendencia emergió). It is a regular -er verb but with an orthographic change: emerge (not emerje). Do not confuse with surgir, which implies a more sudden or unexpected appearance.
