Usage Note
Embarcación is a general term for any watercraft — from a small rowing boat to a large ship — and is notably more formal than barco or bote. It is often used in official and news contexts: embarcación de pesca (fishing vessel), embarcación de recreo (pleasure craft). The verb embarcar (to board, to embark) shares the same root.
Examples
"Una pequeña embarcación cruzó el estrecho de noche."
Natural Translation
A small vessel crossed the strait at night.
