Usage Note

Ego is used both in everyday speech ('tiene mucho ego' = he's very full of himself) and in psychology, where it retains its Freudian sense of the conscious self. The related adjective egocéntrico means self-centred. Unlike English, Spanish also freely uses el yo as a philosophical synonym.
