drama
drama
noun DRAH-mah Less Common
Origin: From Greek drama (action, play).
Usage Note
Drama is a masculine noun — el drama — despite ending in -a, following the pattern of Greek-origin words (el tema, el problema, el sistema). It covers theatrical drama, a dramatic genre of film or TV, and colloquially an overreaction: ¡no hagas un drama! (don't make a scene!). The adjective dramático and the person dramaturgo (playwright) derive from the same root.
Examples
"Es un drama lleno de tensión."
Natural Translation
It is a drama full of tension.
