distante

distant

adjective dees-TAHN-teh Rare

Also means

aloof

Usage Note

Distante describes both physical distance (un pueblo distante — a distant town) and emotional coolness or aloofness (estaba distante y frío — he was distant and cold). Unlike lejano, which is primarily spatial, distante carries stronger emotional weight in interpersonal contexts. It does not change for gender, only for number (distantes).

Examples

"La montaña parecía distante en el horizonte."

Natural Translation

The mountain looked distant on the horizon.
