Usage Note

Disparo is the noun from disparar (to fire/shoot) and refers to a single shot, whether from a firearm or a penalty kick in football. Oír un disparo (to hear a shot) is the standard phrase. Do not confuse it with the similar-looking disparate (nonsense, blunder).
