Usage Note

Directorio can mean a printed or digital directory (list of names/addresses), a computer directory (folder), or a governing board — as in el directorio de la empresa ('the company's board of directors'). In computing contexts across Latin America it refers to a file-system folder, synonymous with carpeta. The political sense referring to a ruling committee is found in historical texts.
