desplazar

to move

verb des-plah-SAHR Less Common

Also means

to displace

Usage Note

Desplazar means to shift something from its place, whether physically (desplazar muebles) or figuratively (desplazar al líder en las encuestas = 'to displace the leader in the polls'). The reflexive desplazarse is the standard way to say 'to travel / to get around': me desplazo en tren ('I travel by train'). The yo-preterite shows the regular -zar spelling change, desplacé (z → c before -é).

Examples

"Me desplazo en bicicleta cada día."

Natural Translation

I travel by bicycle every day.
