Usage Note
Desfavorecido describes people or communities who lack access to economic, social, or educational resources — a 'disadvantaged' group. It is a formal or official register term, common in policy documents, social work, and journalism. Colloquially marginado or en situación de riesgo may be preferred. The word is also used physically to mean 'unflattering' — esa foto te ha dejado muy desfavorecida (that photo is very unflattering to you).
