Descomunal emphasizes something so large or extreme that it exceeds all common measure — it is stronger than grande or enorme and carries a sense of the outlandish. It is commonly used hyperbolically: un esfuerzo descomunal (a colossal effort) or un tamaño descomunal (an outrageous size). The same form is used for both masculine and feminine.
