Descanso denotes a period of rest or a short break — un descanso de diez minutos ('a ten-minute break'). In theatre and film it also means 'interval' or 'intermission'. The verb is descansar. The phrase ¡Que descanses! ('Rest well!') is a common valediction before sleep.
