Depreciar is used in financial contexts (el coche se deprecia rápidamente) and also in the sense of disparaging someone's effort or worth (depreciaron su trabajo). Its reflexive form depreciarse specifically means to lose market value. Do not confuse with despreciar (to despise, to scorn), which carries a stronger negative emotional charge.
