dentro

inside; within

adverb DEN-troh Common

Usage Note

Dentro functions as an adverb ('inside') and in the prepositional phrase dentro de ('inside of', 'within'): dentro de la casa ('inside the house'), dentro de tres días ('within three days'). The opposite is fuera (outside). When used temporally, dentro de always looks forward in time — 'within X time from now' — and should not be confused with hace (ago).

Examples

"El gato está dentro de la caja."

Natural Translation

The cat is inside the box.

Literal Translation

The cat is inside of the box
