Usage Note
Dar has highly irregular preterite forms: di, diste, dio, dimos, disteis, dieron — and these use no accent marks, unlike -er/-ir verbs. The phrase dar un paseo ('to take a walk') and da igual ('it doesn't matter') are extremely common. Darse cuenta (reflexive) means 'to realize'.
Examples
"Le di las gracias."
Natural Translation

To-him I-gave the thanks.
