croata

Croatian

noun adjective kroh-AH-tah Less Common

Usage Note

Croata is common gender — el croata (man) / la croata (woman) — because the noun ends in -a regardless of the referent's sex. The same ending serves both genders, so only the article signals biological sex. El croata also names the Croatian language. The adjective is invariable in the singular: el equipo croata / la selección croata.

Examples

"El jugador croata marcó el gol."

Natural Translation

The Croatian player scored the goal.
