criterio

criterion

noun kree-TEH-ryoh Less Common

Origin: from Greek kriterion (means of judging)

Also means

judgement

Usage Note

Criterio most often appears in the singular with the meaning of personal judgement or standards (a mi criterio — in my judgement). The plural criterios is used for a set of criteria in formal or academic writing. Unlike English 'criteria', the Spanish singular criterio is the everyday form and is not felt as a loan word.

Examples

"Eso depende del criterio de cada uno."

Natural Translation

That depends on each person's judgement.
