Usage Note
Criar means to raise children or animals, and also to breed livestock. Note the accent: the í is stressed in several tenses (crío, crías, cría) to break the diphthong and is required by orthographic rules. Do not confuse with crear (to create); criar specifically implies nurturing a living being.
