Usage Note
Concienciación (also spelled concientización in Latin America) refers to the process of making people aware of a social, environmental, or political issue. It is the noun from the verb concienciar ('to raise awareness'). The Latin American spelling concientización was popularised by the Brazilian educator Paulo Freire in the 1970s. In Spain the -cia- spelling is standard.
