Combate refers to armed combat or a more metaphorical fight, such as boxing: el combate de boxeo (the boxing match). The related verb is combatir (to fight, to combat). Do not confuse with combatividad (fighting spirit) or combatiente (combatant). Lucha and pelea are more colloquial alternatives for 'fight'.
