Usage Note

Comarca denotes a traditional geographic and administrative subdivision smaller than a province but larger than a municipality — the concept is particularly salient in Spain (e.g. the Rioja comarca in La Rioja). It is not a standard administrative level in most Latin American countries, where municipio or región is used instead.
