Usage Note

Cerdo means both the live animal and the meat, similar to how English uses 'pork' for the meat alone. In polite contexts puerco or cochino are regional synonyms, with cochino also used as an insult (dirty person). The adjective cerdo can be used colloquially to call someone a slob. Female: cerda; young pig: lechón or cochinillo.
