Usage Note

Cercano can describe physical proximity (un pueblo cercano = 'a nearby village') or emotional closeness (un amigo cercano = 'a close friend'). The feminine form is cercana. Distinguish from próximo, which leans toward 'next' in time as well as 'near' in space.
