Usage Note
Central is invariable for gender (el tema central, la figura central) but adds -es in the plural. As a noun, la central can refer to a headquarters, power station, or telephone exchange (central eléctrica, power plant; central sindical, trade-union headquarters). Stress falls on the final syllable, following the rule for words ending in -l.
