Usage Note

Cartulina is thin, stiff coloured card — thicker than paper but thinner than cartón (cardboard). It is the standard material for school projects and craft activities. In sports contexts, cartulina amarilla (yellow card) and cartulina roja (red card) are used alongside or instead of tarjeta, particularly in Spain.
