Usage Note
Carburante is the standard word for motor fuel in Spain, covering both gasolina (petrol/gasoline) and diésel. In Latin America, combustible is more commonly used for the same concept. The word derives from French carburant and ultimately from carbon chemistry; the verb carburar means to carbure or, colloquially, to think clearly ('no me carbura el cerebro').
Examples
"El precio del carburante subió esta semana."
Natural Translation
The price of fuel rose this week.
