Usage Note

Búnker is used both literally (a reinforced military shelter) and figuratively in Spanish political discourse to describe an entrenched, reactionary group resistant to change — a usage that became prominent during Spain's post-Franco transition to democracy. The plural is búnkeres or búnkers, both accepted by the RAE.
