Usage Note
Básquet (also spelled básquetbol or baloncesto) is the common informal term for basketball in Latin America. In Spain the preferred term is baloncesto. The word is masculine and the accent mark on the first syllable is required when used in isolation. Básquetbol is common in Mexico and the Southern Cone.
