británico

British

adjective bree-TAH-nee-koh Common

Origin: From Latin Britannicus, relating to Britannia.

Usage Note

Británico refers to the island of Great Britain and can also be used as a noun (los británicos, the British). It is distinct from inglés (English), escocés (Scottish), and galés (Welsh) — a distinction Spanish speakers do not always make but that is culturally important. The feminine form is británica.
