Usage Note
Bola is the generic word for a round ball or sphere — a billiard ball, a snowball (bola de nieve), or a ball of yarn. For sports, pelota is more common for a game ball. In Mexico and parts of Latin America, bola can colloquially mean 'a crowd' or 'a bunch of people' (una bola de gente).
