Bienestar covers physical, emotional, and social well-being as well as the welfare state concept (estado del bienestar). It is always masculine and has no plural in normal use. In Spanish social policy, bienestar social (social welfare) is a key term, and bienestar animal (animal welfare) is increasingly common in contemporary discourse.
