Usage Note
Beatificación is the Catholic Church's second-to-last step before canonisation, in which the Pope declares a deceased person 'Blessed' (Beato/a). It requires proof of a miracle attributed to the candidate after their death. Spanish-speaking countries follow these events closely given Latin America's strong Catholic culture. Do not confuse beato (blessed) with the everyday colloquial use meaning excessively pious or sanctimonious.
Examples
"La beatificación se celebró en la plaza mayor."
Natural Translation
The beatification was celebrated in the main square.
