Bandido covers both a serious outlaw or criminal and, in milder register, a rogue or rascal — used affectionately for a mischievous child or a charming scoundrel. The feminine bandida exists but is less common. Related words include banda (gang, band) and bandidaje (banditry). The Italian source word bandito entered Spanish in the 16th century alongside bandolero, a close synonym.
