Usage Note

Bachillerato is the two-year upper-secondary qualification (roughly ages 16-18) in Spain and most of Latin America, taken after la ESO (Spain) or its equivalent. In Spain it consists of two courses and culminates in the selectividad (university entrance exam). The word is not used for a university bachelor's degree, which is grado or licenciatura.
