Usage Note
Azteca refers to the Aztec civilization of central Mexico (c. 1300–1521) and their descendants. It functions as both an adjective (arquitectura azteca) and a noun (los aztecas), and is invariable for gender in the adjective form — guerrero azteca / guerrera azteca. The Aztecs called themselves mexica; azteca was a term popularized by later historians.
