Autoestima is a compound of auto- (self) + estima (esteem) and despite ending in -a it is feminine, as expected. It is used widely in psychology, self-help, and everyday conversation: tener buena autoestima or trabajar la autoestima. The initial au- diphthong is pronounced as in English 'auto'. There is no commonly used masculine counterpart noun.
