Asimilar can mean to take in and understand information (asimilar un concepto), to absorb a substance physically, or to equate two things (asimilar un cargo a otro — to treat one post as equivalent to another). The reflexive asimilarse means to blend in socially or culturally. It is a regular -ar verb.
